Carroll Hardy
"Only player to pinch-hit for Ted Williams - 9/20/1960"

I sent a request to Carroll Hardy asking him to tell the story on a baseball about his pinch hit at bat for Ted Williams and this is what I received:

"It was the first inning of a game between the Red Sox and the Orioles. One on base and Williams was the hitter. He fouled the first pitch down on his foot. He limped off the field. The mgt Mike Higgins said "Hardy get a bat. You're the hitter." [cont] I hit into a double play to end the inning. It was not known until the season was over and his final statistics were recorded that I was the only man to pinch-hit for Ted Williams"
